Following up on a comment Owen made to patch submitted to fix http://bugs.koha.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=3100, there are some issues with form inputs to think about:

[1] In general, form inputs should allow data entry up to the width of the corresponding database column.

[2] It would be nice to find a way to not have to manually update the templates every time a column width cahnges.

[3] For purposes of visual design, sometimes it's nice to have the form input (as displayed) be shorter than the maximum width of column.

This omnibmus bug hasn't seen any attention in 5 years. 
I am marking this WONTFIX for now. Please reopen or open a new bug if you want to provide patches for this or have identified a form with a problem.
