---- Reported by nengard@gmail.com 2009-11-03 20:27:58 ---- I was thinking that it would be great (and very efficient) to have the Currencies & Exchange Rates page in Koha pull data in real time from a currency API. There are a few out there: http://www.programmableweb.com/apitag/?q=currency&sort=date Comments from IRC: [15:24] <pianohacker> nengard: If one of those has a good terms of use that would allow shipping it completely set up, that'd be nice [15:24] <nengard> not sure - would have to read through them all [15:25] <pianohacker> nengard: If the end-user had to set it up manually, that'd still be useful but not as much so [15:25] <nengard> it's just that exchange rates change hourly and so your acq may not have accurate accounting without pulling it in real time ---- Additional Comments From henridamien@koha-fr.org 2009-11-03 22:03:34 ---- mmm.... Quite tricky indeed. What would you consider accurate : the currency at the time you place your order on a biblio, at the time you send your order to the supplier, at the time you receive your parcel or at the moment you Pay the bill ? Should the amount change depending on the currency updated every hour ? Or should it be calculated once with the exchange rate at the moment you place the order ? => then a simple button to fetch the currency should be better than a cron or a Syndication to Currency changes. But maybe I misunderstand the need. ---- Additional Comments From nengard@gmail.com 2009-11-03 22:47:32 ---- I would assume - and I could be wrong - that I would consider the point that the order is sent to the vendor to be the time I want the currency converted - since that's when the vendor will charge me ... but I guess that's not always accurate ... maybe instead of having it automatically updated allowing the librarians to click a "Get Update" button that queries the API for the most accurate data and updates the page with that ... not sure what's best. ---- Additional Comments From colin.campbell@ptfs-europe.com 2010-02-11 13:43:17 ---- Many libraries want periodic updates from an approved list. EG UN agencies work to a monthly list issued by a UN department and I've seen the same approach in some academics. i.e. they don't want to be affected by real time fluctuations so the api should support periodic as well as real time updates --- Bug imported by chris@bigballofwax.co.nz 2010-05-21 01:14 UTC --- This bug was previously known as _bug_ 3758 at http://bugs.koha.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=3758 Actual time not defined. I prefer colin suggestion = having a batch that update rates. It does not exist either, problem still relevant then. A patch anyone ?
Enhancement request still relevant after release of 3.6.
http://treasury.un.org/operationalrates/UNOperationalRatesRSS.xml seems to be a possible useful source.

Created attachment 72606 [details] Automagically fill currency table. Yes, it isn't a friendly patch format, because I have no idea where to drop it.
It looks like this has been abandoned, any chance to pick it up again?
