Description Kelly McElligott 2020-01-23 14:47:03 UTC
According to the text associated with the system preference, UseQueryParser, this TRY/Don'T Try option will not affect anything however, It does affect searching.

It would appear if a library does set this to TRY, it will have an impact as it appears QueryParser is installed on Koha sites by default.

Can we remove this text or add a different warning, such as "This will affect all searching in KOha"

Wording currently on system preference "to use the QueryParser module for parsing queries. Please note: enabling this will have no impact if you do not have QueryParser installed, and everything will continue to work as usual."

Hi Kelly, I think you are right, at least the second part should be removed. But I'd like to suggest something else: Remove QueryParser.

There are so many problems with it and it doesn't look like anyone will spend the time to fix them (see bug 12742 and linked bugs)

We've voted to remove the QueryParser code (https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Development_IRC_meeting_4_March_2020), so I am closing this WONTFIX.
