Description Rebecca Coert 2021-08-13 19:25:31 UTC
Requesting the addition to the name field for suffix entries (Jr., Sr. III, etc.).

Ideally it would be a drop-down box that could be prepopulated (auth_value?) with common entries; allowing for cleaner data and easier account viewing.

This would be a nice addition to Koha
Comment 2 Katrin Fischer 2023-07-01 13:06:52 UTC
We now have middle name as an additional field, does that help any with that?

No, not really. Especially for users with long names. Example:
Juan Carlos Rodriguez Gonzalez III

If the suffix is added to the middle name, then notices would read Juan Carlos III Rodriguez Gonzalez.

We also have the issue of non-standardized data, which could be fixed with a populated, drop-down menu. This would be useful for II vs. 2nd vs. Jr. or 3rd vs. III, depending on what the system's needs were.

I agree, this would be very helpful especially when a child has the same name as the parent and Jr. or Sr. are the quickest way to differentiate between the two accounts.

We're new to Koha and I was just searching our settings to see if this was turned off, but it looks like I've found my answer here, it's not an option. :(

I would vote on this but I'm not seeing a way to do so. Bugzilla is still new to me, so maybe I'm missing something.
