Just putting this in here since most developers aren't catalogers and won't have ever actually used either editor for more than just a little testing use: The basic editor doesn't retain any state between records, so there's no point in retaining the tab where it was and it just loads what's next in the current tab. It has Save and view record because Save has variable behavior: if there are no items attached to a record, Save takes you to the item editor, if there are items Save takes you to the record details view. Save and view record bypasses that, and takes you to the details view even if there are no items. The advanced editor retains state and rewards you if you keep it open: I catalog new records in a pile of the same itemtype, because my macro for "942 DVD" will already be selected for the next one, or if I need to edit everything in the results of a particular search, then after editing one the search terms are still filled out. It's a little contrary to good web design to have the View and Items links open new tabs, but it works for those uses, and is now ingrained in muscle memory for advanced editor users. The one thing I can't explain is why the advanced editor has a menuitem in the dropdown from the save button for "Save to catalog" which is the exact same thing as the primary button. I don't see any reason not to remove that while adding in a "Save and view record" in its place. |
