Description Chris Cormack 2010-05-21 01:27:41 UTC

---- Reported by camins@numismatics.org 2010-05-10 16:59:57 ----

The MARC21 033 tag (date/time and place of an event; the American Numismatic Society uses it for auction catalogs) should be indexed by Zebra.

The BIB-1 attribute set semantics document recommends indexing the 033 field in attribute 30, which the Koha configuration currently calls "copydate," and does not use. Just adding the 033 field to attribute 30 would be misleading in light of the label used in the configuration, but the 033 field should be probably be indexed in out-of-the-box Koha.

Comment 1 Jared Camins 2010-07-09 14:13:35 UTC
On further consideration, it seems to me that the current behavior is a bug, since the standard (and comments in the Zebra configuration files!) suggest that it should be possible to search on 033. Therefore I am changing the severity from "enhancement" to "normal."

I would suggest adding a left-anchored evdate: (or just event:) operator to CCL searches and the drop down boxes on the advanced search page for the MARC21 033$a, and possibly an evgeo: operator for the MARC21 033$bcp. I have never seen the 033$bcp used, but since 033$p was just added to the MARC21 standard this year, I think that probably the geographical aspect of the 033 will be of increased importance in RDA.
