Description Grant McLean 2010-06-03 03:41:41 UTC
It would be a useful feature if patrons had the ability to create their own accounts. Obviously this would need to be an option that could be enabled for a given instance of Koha.

In my case, the Koha instance is on the public internet and I would be happy for anyone to create an account. The main thing I want people to be able to do is to use the comments feature to add mini reviews of books.

We've talked about this feature at my library before too. We've discussed the option as being used by "web only" patrons as well as "in person" patrons. Because we require "in person" patrons to be residents of the area, we would need a mechanism in place for making web-registered patrons probational until proof of address was brought into a library for confirmation. Perhaps web-registered patrons would be created under a new category with a close expiration date?

If patrons were to be able to create their own accounts, we would need to develop a system for sending confirmation emails which could be customized using the notices system.
