Description D Ruth Holloway 2011-03-23 17:22:54 UTC
It has been suggested that there be a system-level setting for maxissueqty across a family "group", that is, all persons linked together by responsibility settings in the borrower record. For instance, if the system default maxissueqty for a branch is 25 items, and no other values are set, then a parent with two children could theoretically enter the library and borrower 75 items, by having the children check out 25 each. It may be desirable to set child-type patrons for a lower number, but even then, large families could check out a dramatic number of items; a system-level maximum on the entire family group would be nice to have.

I like this - but I'd say that we'd have to create family "groups" first. Right now you can only link children to 1 adult - and can't link adults together or 1 child to two adults.

Hi, has there been anywork done on this feature? It would certainly be useful to be able to limit the total number of checkouts for a particular family group. Does it require a cosponsor or developers?

Hi Lennon, this bug report is pretty old already. Usually the "Assignee" gives a clue if someone is actively working on a bug, but in this case it might be a mistake.

Hi Katrin,

Thanks a lot for responding. What do you suggest i do? Open a new bug request?

I've contacted a couple of support companies directly but have had no response.

Lennon

Hi Lennon, sorry - I got lost in all my bug mails. Maybe try on the mailing list - or seek out khall in the IRC chat to find out if this is still on the development list at Bywater.

Hi Katrin, no problem. Paul Poulain and Kyle Hall both got back to me. The estimated cost was too high for my client unfortunately. Thanks for assisting though

Our library may have an interest in a family group feature, but rather than having a system-level setting for maximum issues per group, we would need to have circulation rules for family groups.

As an example, our library has an informal rule that says: no more than two issues of item type DVD allowed per household. There was no automated way to enforce this rule when we were using Mandarin, nor is there a way using Koha now. Instead, it depends on the librarian (or volunteer desk staff) knowing everybody in this small town and performing the restriction manually. In practice I have never seen this rule enforced.

In any case, to implement this rule, we would need to add a field to the circulation rule for item type DVD that specifies maximum issues per family group. But implementing this seems rather complex.
