Description Chris Cormack 2010-05-21 01:21:12 UTC

---- Reported by nengard@gmail.com 2009-12-16 00:47:35 ----

When no results are found for an OPAC search it would be nice to show a link that says search amazon instead and pull the amazon results into the OPAC (using the API) with buttons next to them that say 'SUGGEST' so that the patron can then automatically send a suggestion to the librarians - they click suggest and a suggestion goes into Acq automatically with the info from Amazon.

This way the user never leaves the OPAC (library site) and the library gets ideas for improving their collection.

I am not sure we should prefer Amazon over other vendors.
Perhaps we could have configurable search links, like we have for OpacSearchForTitleIn, so that the library can decide where she wants to redirect the patron to.
Or we could built a Z39.50 search for the OPAC?

I'm okay with anything - Z searching or amazon or librarything - whatever, just so long as it helps people provide more info on their suggestions :)

Bug 14242 - Use ISBN-field to fill out purchase suggestions (using an Ajax-request) might help with that.
