Description Anneli Österman 2025-08-20 11:03:46 UTC
Use case: There are books with sheet music that have for example 101 songs in them. The books are a series for different instruments and all the books have the same songs. All the songs are catalogued as component records and the basic marc data is the same in all of them. But there needs to be made some changes for example to the 773 fields. It is quite time consuming to duplicate all of those 101 record one by one and make the same changes to all of them.

Need and how to: There is a need to a batch duplicate bibliographic record with a tool/operations where you can select a batch of records and make the same changes to all of them. You could use the MARC modification templates to define the rules for the changes. The batch of records could be seleceted from the search results and then select from Edit button to Batch duplicate records (there is already Batch edit and delete records options). It could also be possible via Lists or Cart too. Or you could alsocreate a file of biblionumbers and choose the file at the tool's home page.

At this moment it is possible to get the same result by exporting and staging the records back with the MARC modification templates but the exporting and staging takes quite a few more steps than simply selecting the records and clicking "Batch duplicate records".
