Description Nicole C. Engard 2011-01-18 20:56:05 UTC
When cataloging the authority controlled fields always show the lock symbol even if the field can be typed in - this is confusing to users and should only show locked if you can't type in the field.

If it matters I'm on Mac and FF.

I understood the lock to mean "under authority control," not "read-only." If that is, indeed, what the symbol means, perhaps we should consider changing the symbol rather than eliminating it. For myself, I find that reminder that a field is authority controlled very helpful.

I understood that fields under authority control were always locked, hence the lock icon. Under what circumstances is a field under authority control but can be manually entered as well?
Comment 3 Nicole C. Engard 2011-03-31 17:54:02 UTC
If BiblioAddsAuthorities is set to 'allow' then the field can be typed in and is not locked.

Does anyone know if this bug is still valid?
Comment 5 Katrin Fischer 2019-04-03 22:14:25 UTC
When BiblioAddsAuthorities is set to allow, the field is no longer greyed out/locked.
