We are puzzling over the possibility of limiting the number of certain items that a student may check out over the course of their whole semester. So, currently we have a limit of 10 ILL items at a time, but they could return those 10 and get 10 more. What if we wanted to create limits on item types that affect a time period. So, effectively, the limit would be 10 ILL items at a time AND 20 ILL items over the course of a semester.
We now have a daily limit on the number of holds a patron can place. This goes the same direction but with the added difficulty of having a user defined date range as a base.
With more libraries circulating Hotspots, which are meant for occasional use, this would be a helpful enhancement. Having a way to set the circ rule so that patrons are limited to xx number of circulations for a specific item type within a period of xx days would be excellent (similar to the newish functionality of limiting the number of purchase suggestions within a time frame).
+1 to this. We would like the option of having a max number of check-outs per day, with a total number of checkouts at a time. So the rules would look something like this. 5 max checkouts per day, 50 total checkouts at a time.
Ditto all of the above. Patrons are crafty and can find the loophole to fit their agenda while limiting other patron's use of the item in question. The added level of customization of the circ rules of items as well as the customization of patrons (individual and/or whole category) would be awesome!
