Description Chris Cormack 2010-05-20 23:41:12 UTC

---- Reported by jmf@kados.org 2007-03-13 06:16:11 ----

there currently isn't any error checking in the web installer, other than printing errors to the screen. There is no way to 'undo' actions, or 'return to previous step'.

Undo updatedatabase ?
Unless we have a much more powerful and flexible update process. I donot see how to realize this.

Undo koha.sql load structure ?
would amount to drop all tables or drop/create database.

Undo loading a peculiar framework ?
Then we would should have two sql scripts one to load, another to delete. either via a filename structure that would allow to load/del Or via a directory structure. What would you favour ?

I am also concerned by the fact that users cannot be aware of which frameworks they loaded.
That is, it would certainly be great if frameworks name loaded could be stored in a list (in mysql) or in a directory (via links), that would allow users to add (and remove if we find a way to) the frameworks they need.

Anything that the web installer would check, could and should just be checked at the command line before that step is started, where the operator might have a chance to fix it. For example, successful connection to the DB and zebra could be checked immediately. But we would not want Koha to change the mysql password from the web!

So you are telling step 1 and 2 should be skipped (check connection to database and third party softwares and modules.)
In order to do only "MARC selection" (Should even be the same as Zebra one in the command line installer this should also be skipped then.)

In the end, it would boil down to do updatedatabase and maybe import frameworks.
This was not what I was asked to do at the beginning.

If system preferences could be loaded on commandline, then InstallAuth.pm could be get rid of.

But, again, this was not what was planned at first.

Web installer has the option to go back some steps and does error checking on database creation etc. No undo of database manipulation which is beyond the scope of a web installer.
