Description Indranil Das Gupta 2015-03-25 23:51:19 UTC
This new feature proposes to add support for storage and display (via the OPAC) of scanned (.PDFs, JPEG / JPEG2000 / TIFF et al.) rare materials (old books that are out of copyright and/or manuscripts) using the IA BookReader [1] JavaScript library.

Since IA BookReader is licensed under AGPLv3, actual download and installation of this JavaScript library will be left as a user initiated exercise via a .KPZ plugin. However, this patch will add the supporting cgi perl module and templates to integrate and facilitate the integrated functionality.

This feature is being partly sponsored by Bhaktivedanta Research Centre (BRC) of ISKCON. BRC presently maintains its catalogue using Koha v3.18

A short video of the preliminary functionality is available on Youtube [2].

Hi Indranil

Why you do not send the patch with this feature? I watched your video and seems to me a very exciting feature.

Another question is where I can find the .KPZ plugin?

You can see actually it in live-action here http://library.brcindia.com/cgi-bin/koha/opac-shelves.pl?viewshelf=3

Bhaktivedanta Research Centre is sponsoring part of the dev costs. They should go officially only by next week. Hope to release it sometime then. I still need to work out a few kinks in the code.

When I release, I will host it here https://github.com/l2c2technologies/

Hi Indranil,

I emailed you regarding with this, maybe you overlook my email. Good thing there is a development on this use case that we need also, plus is it possible only patrons that are log-in to Koha can see the BookReader if they are not log-in to the OPAC the viewing will be restricted.

Probably I could help to raise a fund in sponsoring this project, how much funding do we need to make this project working?

Looking forward to this!

Thank you and best regards,
