---- Reported by nengard@gmail.com 2008-03-21 07:43:38 ----

When I am marking items as received in an order of monographs I know I can click the + at the bottom left to add another item, but I'd also like to type in the number of items in the Qty received box and have the extra fields show up.

---- Additional Comments From nengard@gmail.com 2008-03-21 07:50:38 ----

<nengard> when receiving an order why can't i update the quantity received? this seems like a bug, but i want to be sure it is before i report it
<nengard> ahh - just saw that i can click the + to get another item - but i think we should be able to edit the number as well
 <nengard> so - not a bug - but enhancement
<ryan> nengard: if you have serialsadditems syspref set to on, then each one you receive creates a new item
<ryan> so the plus button gives you extra input fields to add item info
<nengard> what if i'm just receiving monographs ....
<ryan> oh, misread your question :)
<nengard> i just want to type 2 in the qty box and have the extra field show up
<ryan> you mean if you receive more items than you ordered ?
 <ryan> oh, i see
<ryan> yeah, could add a plus button next to qty received
<nengard> no - i ordered 2 but when i click receive it only has 1 in the qty box
<nengard> so i have to hit the +
<nengard> which is fine - i'd just like to be able to also type 2 in the box
<ryan> just easier to control with javascript with just the plus buttons
<ryan> if you're on 4 and you change it to 2, should the page auto-delete the last two entry fieldsets ?
 <nengard> i'd think so
<ryan> plus button lets us not have to answer it
<nengard> actually - the "-" (minus) is hard to see - I had too many and had no idea what to do
 <nengard> rayn :) that's fine
<nengard> I have another acq uestion
 <nengard> question
 <ryan> agreed re: '-'

Geauga mentioned that this is a problem.

---- Additional Comments From nengard@gmail.com 2008-05-14 07:35:13 ----

One more note - Geauga mentioned that they sometimes get 150 copies of a book - and will call us when they have to click the plus sign 150 times :)

---- Additional Comments From jmf@liblime.com 2008-07-08 17:24:13 ----

Most likely, this enhancement is beyond the scope of the Koha acquisitions module, and is better suited to a more generic acquisitions project that will be more suited for larger libraries like Geauga, etc. I'm marking it as an enhancement.

This may be in the new Acq that BibLibre worked on so I'm CCing Paul.

mmm... nengard, there is one good news and one bad news :
* the good one is that, if you set "item creation after receiving", then you'll be able just to enter how many you recieved. Then you'll have to create you 150 items manually.
* the bad news is that, if you set "item creation on order" or "on recieve", the behaviour is the same.

nicole: Close if it fits you need ;-)

I think I'll have to play with it when the patches come through and see how it works and if it solves the problem that was mentioned to me.

This still applies but now it applies to the order form:

/cgi-bin/koha/acqui/neworderempty.pl

I should be able to enter 3 in the quanity box and have that add 3 items for me.

Another update on this. The enhancement request is still valid. Wherever you create your items (order/receive) there is no way to use the quantity field to determine how many item forms show up. You have to use the + sign.

Updating the title because this is an issue in different places depending on where you have the item record.

I'd like to move that this is not an enhancement, but a bug. For big libraries that order 150 copies of a book this is unwieldy. You should be able to type 150 in the qty box to generate the 150 items.

It doesn't seem like a hard thing to fix and I do think it's a bug - or a huge oversight to think that having to click 150 times is reasonable.

The possible enhancement bit is that when you type 150 in the qty box the items should just be duplicates of the first one - so that you don't have to edit 150 items either.

One way to do it for big libraries is to create the items in cataloging. I think for ordering that many items this might be the best way to do it.
Comment 6 Katrin Fischer 2016-06-19 19:58:52 UTC
There is a bug now for dealing with this on ordering bug 14752 - adding as see also.
Comment 7 Katrin Fischer 2019-05-04 15:53:59 UTC
We have different options here now when ordering a big amount of items:
- Choose to create items in cataloguing on basket level
- Choose to create all 150 items at once using the 'add multiple items' option either on order or receive
