Description Chris Cormack 2010-05-21 00:47:24 UTC

---- Reported by rch@liblime.com 2008-05-28 00:06:11 ----

A checkbox would be nice on the email cart interface to give the option to attach this file that most people have no way of opening or viewing in any meaningful way. Then you'll only get the attachment if you ask for it.

In fact, it should give you the option to select which format you want:

Plain text
HTML
Chicago
MLA
Delimited

This is exactly what one of our libraries is requesting. When I asked what they were trying to accomplish this was the reply: We are trying to export it to a spreadsheet per a request from a faculty member. This faculty member is comparing what we have in our collection to other libraries. He already has some other library lists in a spreadsheet form.

Does anyone works in this ? Almost nobody can read files iso2709 except for the IT librarians...
Comment 2 Viktor Sarge 2016-12-28 09:53:39 UTC
This is still valid. However the email one receives does provide both a clear and useful list of the cart content directly in the mail + notes that the attached file is for librarian use. I think it would possibly be more confusing for users to have to deicide if they want iso2709 or not rather than just getting the file with a note to disregard it if they are not IT librarians.

However I do feel that it could be more clearly explained for end users what the difference between download / email cart is. For example it might be better to have users chose the format they want first (plain text/iso2709 etc) and delivery method (download/email) second.

I think I have filed a duplicate:

Bug 18609 - Make attachement of MARC records for list/cart email optional

It turns out the attachement can also create problems if the receiving mail server is strict about attachements.

If we wanted to offer the option to email the attachment from the folder download feature (and I like it... but I **am** one of those types mentioned in Comment 1) I'd prefer it named either cart.mrc or maybe folder.mrc as that suffix is fast becoming the norm for MARC files. And I can't see anywhere to select what formats can be downloaded from a folder, unlike the list in OpacExportOptions for the item detail page.
