Description Christopher Brannon 2025-07-24 21:13:20 UTC
As I help patrons find general sections for what they are looking for in non-fiction, I am realizing that we could do something a little smarter in Koha. If I have a patron looking for a subject, I refer them to a Dewey Decimal Classification poster, but that poster is limited. When it is, I will show them how to search the subject, and then look at different entries to see where they generally land in the collection.

I was thinking, wouldn't it be great if:
1) When you put in a search term, if the term is a classification, it would put in a bar across the top of the results that said something like: It looks like you are looking for: blah, and then give the Dewey number it is associated with.
2) Give a link in the side navigation menu where holds are so patrons could look up a list of classifications if they don't know an exact term. Kind of like the poster, but maybe more exhaustive.

Thoughts?
