---- Reported by nengard@gmail.com 2008-04-29 06:37:25 ---- It might be nice on this page: koha/labels/label-create-template.pl?op=blank to have an image of what each number is referring to on a label sheet - I've seen this in other systems and it has helped me out a lot when creating label templates. This would an image of a sheet of labels (or a part of a sheet of labels) with things like "label height" labeled on the image so people know what part they're measuring. ---- Additional Comments From cnighswonger@foundations.edu 2009-10-08 20:58:17 ---- Created an attachment Label Template Measurements Here is a possible image. We probably should make some "lingo" changes on the template page as follows: "Gap between columns" becomes "Horizontal Gap" "Gap between rows" becomes "Vertical Gap" "Label Pitch" is important to have on the image as some label specifications give this measure and not the horizontal/vertical gap measure. ---- Additional Comments From oleonard@myacpl.org 2009-10-09 00:10:18 ---- Thanks Chis, that's along the lines of the images I've been working on today. My plan was actually to create a series of them, assuming they could be included in the online help (as opposed to inline on the page). I think "Gap between columns" is less confusing (and less ambiguous) than "Horizontal Gap," but maybe that's just me. ---- Additional Comments From oleonard@myacpl.org 2009-10-09 14:27:51 ---- Created an attachment Image describing page height and width ---- Additional Comments From oleonard@myacpl.org 2009-10-09 14:28:37 ---- Created an attachment Image describing label dimensions ---- Additional Comments From oleonard@myacpl.org 2009-10-09 14:31:24 ---- Created an attachment Image describing page margins ---- Additional Comments From oleonard@myacpl.org 2009-10-09 14:32:21 ---- Created an attachment Image describing text margins ---- Additional Comments From oleonard@myacpl.org 2009-10-09 14:43:22 ---- Created an attachment Image describing column margins ---- Additional Comments From oleonard@myacpl.org 2009-10-09 15:13:01 ---- Created an attachment Image describing label pitch Someone please correct me if I've gotten any of these wrong or any of them seem misleading. "Label pitch" was new to me. Koha's label setup form doesn't include any reference to pitch, so if we use the label pitch image we should be sure to contextualize it properly in the online help. ---- Additional Comments From cnighswonger@foundations.edu 2009-10-09 22:02:11 ---- These look great, Owen! Label pitch is a measure given in some label specs rather than horizontal and vertical gap (gap between row/column). It can be used to calculate accurately the gap horz/vert gap. This could be explained in the help page. ---- Additional Comments From nengard@gmail.com 2010-02-04 13:57:29 ---- What will it take to get these images into 3.2? I'll put them in the manual, but it might help to have them on the page where you create the label or card. ---- Additional Comments From gmcharlt@gmail.com 2010-02-04 14:44:53 ---- (In reply to comment #10) > What will it take to get these images into 3.2? I'll put them in the manual, > but it might help to have them on the page where you create the label or card. Is there a way to translate them or design without embedding English in the image itself? I agree that having the images be available directly in the interface would nice, but we should avoid adding untranslatable content. --- Bug imported by chris@bigballofwax.co.nz 2010-05-21 00:37 UTC --- This bug was previously known as _bug_ 2069 at http://bugs.koha.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=2069 Imported an attachment (id=474) Imported an attachment (id=475) Imported an attachment (id=476) Imported an attachment (id=477) Imported an attachment (id=478) Imported an attachment (id=479) Imported an attachment (id=480) Actual time not defined. Maybe the pictures could be useful for the English manual?
Making them translatable might not be easy. One solution I can think of is using numbers or letters and then have the labelling as part of the text.
Showing images would definitely help to understand the various measurements. I do agree with Katrin, images should not include text with the exception of letters or numbers. A legend explaining all variables could be added bellow in the text, so it would be easier to translate. (e.g.: 1 = page width, 2 = page height, a= label width, b= label height, etc...)
