Line breaks and carriage returns are known to break legacy library system record imports and, text area fields in MARC records are not designed to carry formatting, therefore it is implied that the data would be saved as a plain text string with no added formatting.

For users who follow these cataloguing standards, there should be a setting to ask Koha to strip these.
