Description Chris Cormack 2010-05-21 01:14:50 UTC

---- Reported by ian.walls@bywatersolutions.com 2009-11-05 19:23:54 ----

Problem reported in IRC chat on Nov. 5, 2009.

Koha 3.0.1 user reported duplicate biblio records being created each time cataloging was done (creating new from Z39.50 search) in Internet Explorer. The duplicate records had adjacent biblionumbers, but whether the itemless record came first or second could not be reliably determined.

Investigation showed that using Firefox did not produce this error. Initially, Internet Explorer threw up a "duplicate warning sign", then after the computer was upgraded, the sign went away and records were automatically duplicated.

Open question: is this error reproducible in later versions of Koha?

I tested by taking these steps:

1. Go to Cataloging, click "New Record (Books framework)"
2. Launch Z39.50 search, find a book to import.
3. Save imported record.
4. Check database for duplicate biblio.

If that's the correct procedure then I can't reproduce the problem with Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7.

Owen,
As per our discussion, this is replicated when the holding is created at the same time as the bib.

Known workarounds at this time:
1) Use a different browser.
2) Create the bib but don't create the holding after saving. Instead, search for the bib and then add an item. This will prevent creating a duplicate bib.

Scratch number 2. It worked once, but now skipping the item entry does not prevent duplication.

Please re-open if this can be replicated in a current version.
