Description Katrin Fischer 2015-04-22 10:28:34 UTC
1) Record with 1 item
2) Check out the item to a user
3) Place an item level hold for another patron
4) Place another hold for another patron in the OPAC

Item displays:
On hold for patron expected at <branchcode> since 14/04/2015 .

This is confusing for the staff user and even more for the patron in the OPAC.

I think it means:
- it has been placed on hold on 14/4... because the due date is 06/05/2015 (dd/mm)

I'd suggest:
- Showing the OPAC user only the number of other holds on the item - they might want to pick another then.

- Showing the staff user a better message
  - don't show the branchcode, but the branchname
  - don't show the branchname, if there is only 1 branch in the system
    and/or obey SingleBranchmMode
  - change 'expected' to ...?

Fixing this on the OPAC and staff could be done separately.

Maybe.... expected = for pick-up at ... placed on ... ?

Hi Katrin,

I'm aware that this bug report is rather old now. I wanted to check whether you still think there is an issue here.

I followed the steps you outlined, and in the Status column of the Hold table in the Item detail page (in Staff client) it says:

Checked out to <borrower>(<borrowernumber>) : due 05/16/2019 23:59
Item-level hold (placed 05/02/2019) for delivery at Centerville. Hold for: <borrower> (<borrowernumber>)

In the OPAC, I wasn't able to find the message you described. Has it been removed or did I miss it?

With 18.11 Koha update, bug 15505 resolved the status display of holds on records. When a hold is on a record, then the OPAC will say - pending hold, on hold. However, as Hayley is commenting, item level holds is still appearing misleading to patrons. See Hayley's comment for how it displays for the OPAC/Staff for item level holds. We would like to see the same sort of status message for the user to see on the OPAC as opposed to Available, which is currently displays, although the staff client knows there is an item level hold which hasn't yet been triggered.

Current display is:

Staff: https://snipboard.io/WEsL1X.jpg
Due 01/13/2021 On hold expected at Centerville since 01/07/2021 . Cancel hold

OPAC : https://snipboard.io/3Gn7m0.jpg
Due 01/13/2021 On hold for patron expected at CPL since 01/07/2021 .

Looks ok to me know, can you confirm?

Actually it's not ok, for several reasons as noted in comment 1 and following.

Most obvious:

- branchcode in OPAC, library description in staff.
- Additional whitespace before the . at the end.

From the comments I gather that others would also like this message to be simplified for patrons.

I think my suggestions form comment 1 or maybe the more "radical" approach from comment 3 are still valid here.

Should mention I just tested on master and it still looks like the screenshot.
